Home Bargains Has Spent 400 Million Pounds Building a Brand-new Automated Centre to Support Its Goal of Opening 1000 Stores

May 29, 2025

Home Bargains has officially launched its "cutting-edge" million-square-foot automated distribution center outside Liverpool.

The discount retailer said its new warehouse in St Helens, Merseyside, which cost £400 million, will operate "around the clock" to support its 300 Home Bargains stores.

This facility adopts the order sorting technology of Witron Company, automating 80% of the inventory sorting work within the center. Home Bargains said that this distribution center with 1,000 employees is a "key step" in its ambitious growth strategy, aiming to expand the coverage of its stores in the UK. Currently, the company is also building another million-square-foot distribution center in Doncaster. It is expected to supply more than 300 stores after its completion in October 2026.

At the time of this expansion, Home Bargains' pre-tax profit soared by 35%, with a profit of £454.8 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, up from £336.5 million in the previous fiscal year. Sales rose 11% to £4.2 billion, mainly due to the opening of new stores, the relocation of existing stores and the improvement of overall sales performance.

The retailer, which currently has 617 stores, plans to continue expanding this year and aims to open 800 to 1,000 stores in the UK.
